MacBooks can have issues sometimes and it can be worse if its a hardware issue.
One such hardware issue is the trackpad not working on the MacBook.
Clean Your Trackpad
We use our MacBooks for work extensively.
To clean your MacBooks trackpad, take a microfibre cloth and clean it using the trackpad.
Once cleaned, your trackpad should work back now.
If not, youre looking at a different issue other than just dust.
Remove Any Connected Mouse
Its possible that you use your mouse with your MacBook.
It might be a good idea to check whether your Mac disabled your trackpad.

3.Turn off theIgnore built-in trackpad when mouse or wireless trackpad is presentoption.

1.hit theApple menuon the top left of your screen.

As soon as your MacBook restarts, you might start using your trackpad on it again.
If not, proceed with the following troubleshooting methods to fix the issue.

Once restarted, your trackpad should start working back on your MacBook.

Reset the NVRAM or PRAM
1.press theApple menuon the top left of your screen and select theShut Downoption.
2.Wait for a minute after shutting down your MacBook and press thePowerbutton.
However, SMC isnt available on the Apple silicon-based MacBooks but only on the Intel-based MacBooks.
Resetting the SMC is different based on your Intel MacBook model.
Heres how to reset the SMC on your Intel-based MacBook:
1.Shut downyour MacBook entirely.
2.HoldShift + Control + Optionkeys on your keyboard and thePower buttonsimultaneously for 10 seconds.
3.Press thePower buttonafterwards to boot back your MacBook.

2.Wait for15 secondsand plug back your MacBook to the power supply.
3.Wait forfive secondsand press thePower buttonto turn on your MacBook.
Try the trackpad on your MacBook after it turns back on and it should work now.
If not, it’s possible for you to try the next troubleshooting methods:

Take your Mac to the nearest Apple Store or an authorized service center.
Theyll ask you to send the Mac in for analysis.
Depending on the availability of parts, it could take 3-5 days to thoroughly diagnose and repair the problem.
