Bill Requiring All EVs in California Have Bidirectional Charging Is Defeated in State Assembly

California State Sen. Nancy Skinner introducedSB-233in January.

The measure, which would have gone into effect in 2027, cleared the Senate by a 29-9 margin.

Skinner said she’s decided not to move forward.

Currently, only a few cars are truly bidirectionally enabled in the US, most notably the Nissan Leaf.

In August, GM announced all of its electric vehicles will be bidirectionalby model year 2026.

And Tesla confirmed it will be standard in its lineup by2025.
